Elsie Elizabeth Hall Bowman, 89, formerly of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Valley Nursing Center, Taylorsville.

She was born June 29, 1927, in Caldwell County, daughter of George Rome Hall and Ellen (Dolly) Lenore Moretz Hall.

Elsie was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church for 60+ years. For over 35 years, she loved working in the church nursery. Elsie also worked with the fellowship meal program, community outreach, and visited with disabled and elderly church members.

For more than 40 years, she was employed as a textile inspector for local businesses. She worked tirelessly her entire life, until health issues finally slowed her down.

Elsie was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and wife to a husband she adored. She loved sharing time with her family and friends, and enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers. She loved cooking for her family and friends, and was known for her decadent pecan pies.

Elsie was a talented seamstress who enjoyed making clothes and quilts. She had many grand dogs over the years that she spoiled with love and treats. Elsie lived by The Golden Rule, put others before herself, and possessed a kindness that anyone who knew her will not forget. She will be greatly missed.

Elsie is survived by three sons, Chris D. Bowman and Genie Sherwood of Raleigh, Dennis R. Bowman and wife Patsy Bowman of Fort Mill, South Carolina, and Keith Bowman and Linda Johnson of Rougemont; a grandson, Taylor M. Bowman and wife Katie Bowman of Medfield, Massachusetts; a great-granddaughter, Charlotte Mary Bowman; sisters, Ruby Bowman (Clarence Bowman) and Kathy Minyard (Bill Minyard) of Hickory, Fran Rosenbaum (Junior Rosenbaum) and Ellen Bolick (Bliss Bolick) of Bethlehem, Nancy Thomasson (Jim Thomasson) of Taylorsville, and Alice Anderson of Hickory; and a brother, Floyd Hall of Catawba County.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Horace Claude Bowman; and brothers, Fred (Clara Hall) and Bill Hall (Carolyn Hall) of Hickory.

Her sons wish to express sincere appreciation and respect for Fran Rosenbaum, Ruby Bowman, Rachel Bowman, Kathy Minyard, Rhonda Watson and many other friends and family members who helped the family during her declining health. Their gratitude also goes out to the employees of Taylorsville House and Valley Nursing Center, of Taylorsville.

The family will receive friends at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Taylorsville, at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2017, with the memorial service following, at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Wayne Caviness will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org/donate, Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley, or any charity that helps someone in need.
