Larry Ervin Sams, husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and jack-of all-trades died on October 13, 2016, in Creston, Calif. after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 69 years old. Larry was born in Redondo Beach, Calif. in 1946, to Ervin Sams and Dolores Martin. He was a "womb-mate" to his twin sister Sharyl Lynn. Larry grew up in Redondo Beach and then went on to serve in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. He met the love of his life Susan, and they got married in 1979. Larry and Susan moved to Los Osos, Calif. where Larry built his home and his business, Tri-Counties Mechanical. His daughters, Danielle Crawford and Samantha Sams, both remember their father as the man who had all the answers, who loved to fish, and make home-made sausage. A contractor from a young age, Larry was often in his workshop, tinkering on whatever project caught his fancy, from building the master barbecue to welding horseshoe decorations for the house. Larry and Susan moved to Creston, Calif. in 2002, when their need for ranch and shop space outgrew their home. Larry then went on to work at CMC and Atascadero State Hospital, and then "retiring" to work at Hearst Castle. Larry was preceded in death by his twin sister, Sherry and his granddaughter Taylor. He is survived by his wife, Susan (Dempster) Sams; his daughters, Danielle Crawford and Samantha Sams; grandsons Chad and Anthony Crawford; his mother, Dolores Martin; and his brother, Michael Sams of Nevada. Larry will be remembered for his loud laugh and his generosity, as well as having the best-decorated house during the Christmas season. He loved making sausage with his friends, a good game of golf, the never ending menagerie of animals at the ranch and his family most of all. A celebration of life will be held at 11:30am, December 3, 2016, at the Sams' Ranch. Donations in Larry's honor can be made to the Lung Cancer Alliance.
