      Funeral services for Louis J. "Budd" Heineman, Jr. age 88 of Pender, NE formerly of West Point, NE will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point, NE. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Rosehill Cemetery at Pender, NE. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

      Budd passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender, NE.

      Louis John Henry Heineman, Jr. was born on June 5, 1925 at Stanton, NE to Louis, Sr. and Johanna (Kai) Heineman. He was baptized on November 2, 1925 at First Trinity Lutheran Church, near Wayne, NE and later confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender, NE. Budd graduated from Pender High School in 1943. On October 9, 1943, he began his enlistment in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on October 25, 1946 as a Motor Machinists Mate 2nd Class. He returned to Pender and did various jobs prior to his marriage. On October 12, 1950, he was united in marriage to Mabel Steinmeyer in Walthill, NE. The couple moved to West Point in 1951, where Budd worked for West Point Rendering and also raised sheep. In 1965, they moved to Pender and operated the Gem Café until 1967 and returned to West Point, where he retired from West Point Rendering in 1988.

      Budd was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 40 years, was a past member of the Cuming Co. Historical Society and was a former 4-H Leader.

      Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren-
      Amanda and husband Jason Huntington and Jovi of Pender, NE
      Tanner and wife Tricia Heineman and Ostern of Pender, NE
      Crystal and husband Rustin Dickelman and Kelby of Chancellor, SD

      Budd was preceded in death by his parents, wife-Mabel on August 14, 2006, six brothers and six sisters.
